The Mossy Creek Mystery
Ten‑year‑olds Lila, June, and Milo were known all over their neighborhood as The Triple Detectives. Every Saturday, they met under the old willow tree behind Lila’s house, armed with notebooks, walkie‑talkies, and exactly three granola bars. One bright morning, June burst into the yard waving a shiny silver key she’d found near Mossy Creek. “This,” she declared dramatically, “belongs to a mystery.” And just like that, the case began.
The three friends followed the creek trail, searching for anything unusual. Milo, who always noticed tiny details, spotted a set of small footprints leading toward the abandoned bird‑watching shed. Lila, the brave one, pushed open the creaky door while June held the key like a sword. Inside, dust floated like glitter in the sunlight — and in the middle of the floor sat a wooden box with a lock that matched June’s key perfectly.
Their hearts thumped as June slid the key into the lock. It clicked open to reveal… a stack of old hand‑drawn maps, each one showing different hidden spots around Mossy Creek. “Treasure maps!” Milo whispered, eyes wide. But Lila shook her head. “No… look.” She pointed to the bottom corner of each map where someone had scribbled: For the next explorers — keep the creek safe.
The three friends looked at each other and grinned. The maps weren’t about treasure — they were clues left by kids who’d explored the creek long before them. So, Lila, June, and Milo made a promise right there in the dusty shed: they would become the new guardians of Mossy Creek. And from that day on, every weekend brought a new adventure, a new mystery, and a new reason to protect the place they loved most.
